Based in Edinburgh, Lara Scobie concentrates on the theme of balance through composition and form. By adding drawing and mark making to the clay, Scobie takes this idea further. She plays with colour and pattern in order to shift the balance around an object. Her pieces are fully functional, made from a porcelain originally designed as a marble substitute which does not need to be glazed to be useable. This allows Scobie to maintain the smooth, soft creaminess of the porcelain, which she finds so beguiling.
