Laura Plant Trials Series

New Works from this award winning designer and artist

Making in her hometown of Stoke-on-Trent, Laura Plant draws from the creative heritage and ambition of the pioneering potters who made the city famous.

Her vessels expose the unique qualities of the ceramic surface through exploration of clay bodies, glaze and making techniques. Each clay and process bring a different character to the work, the different surface qualities sitting harmoniously together. Through a considered design process, Laura’s love of shape evolves into sculptural pieces that create striking ceramic landscapes.

Laura's new pieces are part of a series called ‘Trials’ which began during a residency with the British Ceramics Biennial in 2021, it is an exploration of form in thrown porcelain.

"I think of each piece as a sketch in clay, capturing a moment or idea and whilst I revisit some forms each piece is unique".

The vessels are thrown in sections before being attached and turned with the marks from turning left visible.

"I like to expose the beauty of the unglazed ceramic surface, leaving the marks from turning visible.

The glaze are my own recipes, and this collection includes two new colours".
