Barry Stedman
My ceramics are influenced by the drawings that I make in places that I find interesting and inspiring. I like to explore exciting relationships between colour, texture and form, often motivated by the light, atmosphere and colours that I find around me at the time.
I prefer to work with quite strong, simple forms often in series exploring a particular theme thrown up by a place, a drawing or a memory, and I try to make the work feel fresh, energising, and spontaneous.
I usually work with red earthenware clay, and most of my work is either slab built or wheel thrown and altered, and then painted, scratched and marked with coloured slips, stains and oxides.
