Louise Renae Anderson

My passion for cloth originated from my study of Fashion Design. Learning to understand structure, texture, colour and handle and how to cut, drape and sew cloth with skill.  This love for such a material lead me to study hand woven textiles.  My work is inspired by natural materials and most importantly both the process of making and quality craftsmanship.

My current textiles work is concerned with the passage of time and how this may be reflected and incorporated within hand woven textiles. Time also underpins the quality and the skill in using processes and techniques involving traditional methods of dyeing and weaving and natural materials combined with a contemporary approach to design.  I am particularly interested in the Japanese aesthetic philosophy of Wabi Sabi and its intangible, spiritual qualities.  I see the repetitive, rhythmical nature of hand weaving as a form of meditation and escape from today’s fast-paced society.
