Grant McCaig
The work was derived from my interest in the sea and the sometimes precarious relationship between objects and the sea. The forms in silver are simple and the surfaces are free from the decorative rhythm of hammer marks that are normally associated with the work of the Silversmith. The metal is contrasted with re cycled oak as a means of exploring the un-conscious mark making that objects develop as a result of their use within the interior landscape. This type of mark making is hugely significant to me; I see it as a visual document of the journey of the work and as such is integral to the evolution of the piece.
