Ali Stringell
I trained as a theatre designer, graduating from the Slade School of Fine Art and have spent many rewarding and exhilarating times as a set and costume designer for theatre, opera, ballet and television. This was both creative and varied, involving the pulling off of actors tights, in a fractious ‘quick change’, behind the scenes, to designing pop-up, cutouts of ‘singing babies’ in their prams as designer for the surreal opera by Poulenc, ‘Les Mamelles de Theresius’, at the Guildhall.
As a designer/maker I have turned my interest to working with precious metals. The magic of the theatre has continually formed the thread of my design ideas. My work is primarily focused on a collection of rings, known as the ‘car2bar’ collection.
