Halima Cassell

Halima Cassell’s work fuses her Asian cultural roots with a fascination for African pattern and a deep passion for architectural geometry. Her thick-walled forms are deeply carved into intricate, geometric designs. Finished pieces of varying depth and scale push the physical limits of the material. The dynamic tension in her work results from the playful manipulation of the planes and facets of patterns in order to create the illusion of movement and enhance the interplay of light and shadow.

The hue of the clay body is crucial – Cassell never use glazes, relying solely on the clay-body itself (either stoneware or earthenware) to provide the colour and tone.
