Fenella Elms

Fenella Elms creates intriguing wall pieces, remarkable for their intricate structures and textures, from small pieces of porcelain which she calls ‘beads’. The work is based on the interaction of similar parts and the connection that comes about through relationships and formations. The indiscernibly shifting components – the carefully hand-placed ‘beads’ – build up into a complex, whole body.

“I am drawn to align strips, edges and small pieces of porcelain clay into intricate structures and textures.  The work builds with the connection of similar but separate parts and the interaction that comes about through placing in formation: shifting components form a co-operative body.”
