Michelle House

Having discovered printing whilst studying at Goldsmiths College, Michelle House has been inspired and drawn to the medium ever since. Her practice encompasses one-off wall-hangings and textile panels for commissions and exhibitions, cushions and original digital prints. She creates vibrant abstract prints with a strong graphic style and photographic elements. Geometry within the architectural landscape spotted on walks through London, the physical act of mixing and layering of colours, the texture of fabrics, shadows, pattern and the print process all inform her work.

Whilst photography and sketching are the starting points for a new piece or group of work, House is at home with working digitally, using the computer to design and plan, and for adjusting and editing sections of photographs before they are transferred onto screens. Using different textured fabrics to create series of works, she utilises screens and hand-cut stencils to paint and print layers of dyes and pigments.
