Meticulous formation of geometric clay shapes, and their considered composition
Using a wire and three-dimensional template or guide, all pieces are constructed using extruded clay blocks that have been cut into asymmetrical forms or projected lengths. Individual units are then grouped into patterns and sliced using an angled jig.
With carefully controlled adjustments to the jig and block’s orientation the process is repeated several times. When the new units are ready they are joined, supported and then fired. Stoneware clay coated with slip and commercial stains is used. Slips are sprayed onto bisque to avoid sheens and also add a deceptive texture. The final firing is to cone 6. All work is fired oxidation in electric kilns.
