Extensive workshop practice to experiment with natural materials and sampling processes.
The work stems from a deep engagement with materials and processes, and sustainable ethics. The main source of inspiration is the surrounding natural environment. The natural dyeing method only requires natural sources - rock alum and iron water are used as a mordant to fix colours, made from natural dyestuffs, onto fibres. The colours are mainly produced by four traditional dyestuffs: cochineal, cutch, madder and weld. In addition, some local dyestuffs such as elder leaves, nettles and chestnuts are used. Each scarf is completed by a carefully chosen wet finish, which produces a quality cloth.
The development of the work emerges from extensive workshop practice, and a process of sampling allows designing through making.
