Gillies Jones is the creative alliance between glass maker Stephen Gillies & artist Kate Jones. They work together to produce small bowls as studio pieces and ambitious one off unique works in blown, overlay, sand carved glass. The unique works. Aesculus, takes the proportions of the annually abundant horse chestnut seed . The textures and patterns are drawn form elements of the much larger order and arrangement of the natural world. The ambition of our work is to draw the viewers attention to the beauty , detail and significance of easily overlooked elements of the natural world. Elements , whose purpose proportions and patterns are governed by a set of reoccurring, indisputable and awe inspiring laws. These repetitive patterns can be seen when time is taken to stop and look. Our work also aims to celebrate the unique qualities and beauty of glass as a material , to inspire our creativity as makers and to push our technical skills to the limit. Each individual piece is part of a body of ongoing work, which is conststntly evolving in content , form, colour and pattern.
