Since graduating in 1999, the starting point for all my work has been to make each piece from a single sheet of metal. Each idea begins as a ‘perfect’ bowl or sheet of metal, which I then, more or less brutally cut into and de-construct This ‘economical’ working process and the challenge to stretch its limitations is a vital source of inspiration. My latest work is a move towards a more abstract expression. The new range of bowls explores the subjects of optical illusion, negative space and the idea of ‘cutting a form’ out of a surface.
