Light Seeping Through Windows:

Barbara Christie

18.01.13 - 02.03.13

Contemporary Applied Arts is pleased to present ‘Light Seeping Through Windows’ – a retrospective of work by contemporary jewellery maker Barbara Christie.
This touring exhibition brings together for the first time rarely seen key pieces from Barbara’s extraordinary body of work, selected from private collections and the artist’s own archive, along with a range of new pieces.

Barbara Christie is a storyteller whose narrative is expressed in metal and stones. She has developed her own style and technique of jewellery creation through a love of making, which has driven her to express her intricate thought processes in individual designs in gold and silver. Embellished with unusual precious and semi-precious stones, they often merge abstract and figurative elements.

Born in Amsterdam and based in London since 1969, Barbara Christie has been making a unique impression and creative contribution to contemporary British jewellery practice since the 1980s. Through her outstanding commitment to teaching Barbara is a true influence on many talented makers working today.
