Victoria Burgher

Victoria Burgher’s practice covers sculpture, video and photography. Recent work focuses obliquely on current political issues, with meaning referenced through the choice and employment of materials. Everyday objects are taken as a starting point and reinterpreted.
Often the materials employed are cheap, found or more usually associated with the domestic environment.

“Contemporary social and political issues provide the subjects for her works. Written or verbal language is the customary medium in which such matters are reported and discussed; but in news stories, histories and fiction the content is generally mediated, so that there can be a sense of shared responsibility. In contrast to this, Victoria Burgher’s expressive language of materials and process involves and implicates us personally - (Tessa Peters, Curator)
