Micki Schloessingk

I enjoy making pots that respond imaginatively to daily needs in the kitchen, yet are equally at home in quieter spaces.
One moment my bowl is comfortable in the hand, holding a beaten egg. Minutes later, washed and dried, it sits elegantly on the set table, awaiting guests. Later still, it finds repose on a high shelf, its form clear and spare, with space to breathe.

I make pots that I hope will grow on those who use them, their qualities revealing themselves over time.

I have always fired with wood. I love the process, it is challenging and fully engaging. The pots that emerge tell the story of their particular firing, the glaze determined by the flow of salt and ash, influenced by the weather, the wood and the energy of the firers. The flames in the kiln are slow and gentle yet strong and I hope these qualities are reflected in my pots.
