Carys Davies

I have recently started writing on pots.  I have always been stimulated by words and phrases: they can crystallise a feeling or capture some fleeting mood even when or especially when they are a bit ambiguous or ambivalent or out of place.

I also like plain pots plates, beakers, vases that show the marks of their making but aren't too fancy to be used.  I like to arrange these plain, written-on pots together, like I used to as a child on the seld the welsh dresser. We had a plain one in the kitchen and a fancy one in the front parlour. My groups can be put on a shelf, or in a plain box on the wall. They are at the same time an installation, and pots that can be used. Over time I want them to accrue their owner's resonances and meanings as well as my own.
