Becky Harle

My work with pure white porcelain aims to challenge and test the historical preconceptions of the clay. Stereotypically it is thought of as beautiful, precious, smooth and touchable; and within ceramics notoriously difficult to build with.
I construct unstable looking forms which precariously balance and through their fragile structures enforce a feeling of awkwardness upon the viewer. Each layer is like parchment with increasingly difficult, dangerous and sharp edges.
