(out of ) Focus

This current body of work is an investigation into the space around the finished object.

During a recent trip to South America I had the opportunity to research large scale metal casting in a foundry in Bogota, Colombia. I found the processes involved in realizing the final work fascinating; the tools, the materials the heat and the glowing liquid metal. And yet all these elements were missing from the final cast objects, which were integral to my enjoyment of the piece.

All of the objects on show for “out of focus” are echoes of the processes, tools and actions that have gone into the making of hypothetical “finished” piece. It is a way of exploring the origins of form, an attempt to establish new dialogues within my practice; a focus on process, action, metamorphosis, value and alchemy.
