Vera Siemund

Historic ornament has long been the focus of my interest. I try to work with its power of association. I love the richness and fineness in details of old jewellery and I try to transform
it in a way that it could be of contemporary interest.

I combined for example the classical ‘necklet’ with a Bavarian tablecloth or a pattern from the 1950s.

I often work with quotations from the classicism of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. I pick out pieces which are themselves already eclectic. Beside historical jewellery, architecture is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me. And I love to show the beauty of decoration, stuff that is nowadays regarded as very ugly: for example wall lamps or velvet cushions, old-fashioned designs as relicts of a lost cosy, bourgeois interior.

With my latest pieces I left nineteenth century ornamentation and focused on a more recent period, the 1960s and 1970s.
