Esther Knobel

During my undergraduate studies at Bezalel, the enamel studio, under the once in a lifetime leadership of Vera Ronnen, a master enameller and a true pluralist in her educational approach, was my place of refuge from the stiff training in the jewellery studio.  Although very passionate about the area, I was not able to take on the slow and disciplined process of enamelling and found alternative ways of using colour in my work
Twenty years later, I had a chance to take a class with Linda Darty, another generous teacher. The series ‘my Grandmother is knitting too’ was the outcome of this renewed encounter with the technique of enameling.
These and subsequent works are all attempts to work ‘easy’ with enamel.
A magnet is an object that produces a magnetic field: A force that pulls        attracts and repels….Out of my interest in the essence of the object of jewellery, I am happy to rest for a while in the verity of meanings created by this metaphor.
