R & R – Residencies and Retreats for Contemporary Makers
Including work by Gary Breeze, Lettering; Katharine Coleman, Glass; Stephen Dixon, Ceramics; Dorothy Hogg, Jewellery; Deirdre Nelson, Textiles
In the past decade, there have been a growing number of quite different residency opportunities for contemporary makers in the UK. This is a welcome development, as residencies can offer valuable funds; useful research time away from the demands of running an independent studio and stimulating contact with different social and professional networks.
R & R brings together five contemporary makers who have participated in five very different residencies in London, Southampton and Scotland. The exhibitors have been chosen as they are all recognised as significant practitioners within their fields, as well as having all recently participated in a residency programme.
How to offer support to and investment in our most innovative and experienced makers remains an important challenge for funders and patrons. R & R offers a glimpse of some imaginative responses to this challenge.
A small brochure will accompany this show.
