Vicki Ambery-Smith has earned an international reputation for her unique style of jewellery based on her interpretations of architecture. Growing up in Oxford provided her with inspiration that has developed over 25 years into a theme that draws on buidings as diverse as ancient Greece to contemporary Europe and America. Some pieces reflect her personal interest in a particular place, while others are based on a building of significance to the client.
Vicki attended a Foundation course in Oxford in 1973, followed by a 3 year jewellery design course at Middlesex Polytechnic with a one semester exchange to the Fachhoch Schule in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany. After working as a designer for a manufacturing jeweller she was awarded a setting up grant from the Crafts Council with which to set up her own workshop in 1977. Since then she has exhibited widely and has many pieces in public and private collections including the V&A Museum, East Midlands Arts, Royal Scottish Museum and Houston University, Texas.
Her commissions are many and varied including pieces for the Globe Theatre, Chase Manhatten Bank, Guggenheim Museum (NY), Temple Bar, Emily’s List Awards and Robinson College, Cambridge.
