Sally Fawkes

The balance of symbiotic relationships is constantly changing, and the importance of these relationships are not to be underestimated. The smallest shift in the earth’s “chemistry” can have exponential effects on life on earth throughout connections that the majority of us have never even considered.

The point of balance supporting life as we know it is delicate and must be handled with care. My contribution to the ‘Bees’ exhibition can be cradled in our hands. The form is reassuringly tactile and alluring but the unexpected weight and responsibility of holding a potentially fragile object may stimulate an unexpected, perhaps unnerving response. Such close proximity to the object brings us face to face with the shifting events of the interior, stimulating a visual journey through a labyrinth of allusions, which I hope will provoke concentrated consideration to ‘the plight of the bee’ and potential for action, however small.
