Julia Griffith-Jones
My work is concerned with the translation of linear drawings from a variety of sources into a wire and metal form. I work with mild steel wire, using different gauges which I weld and paint. My recent work, a collection of wire garments is touring the U.K. in an exhibition entitled ‘Stories in the Making’. Each garment is inspired by either a poem or my favourite piece of writing but which also has a reference to textiles either in its surface structure, or pattern.
From October 2006 I will be researching new work using the national collections at The National Wool Museum .The research will be documented on the National Museum of Wales website and will culminate in a major body of work which will be seen at the National Wool Museum and elsewhere.
