Joanna Veevers

Whilst visiting natural history museums to research and draw bees, I became absorbed in the visual power of their arrangement, repetition and display. The collections of bees, meticulously pinned to labels for identification and classification, struck a chord with me about finding and collecting, order, narrative and attention to detail. Decorative resonance seemed to be in conflict with the grim reality of the displays of death and the worrying threat to the survival of bees.
I aim to reflect something of these sentiments through my drawings and arrangements of ceramic pieces.
