Cathy Miles

The inner workings of the hive remind me of an assembly of human industrious employees. The complexity of communication methods and division of labour; provides fuel for the imagination which I explore through wall works. These pieces celebrate the life of a honeybee, taking inspiration from the daily duties of the queen, the drone and the worker.
I aim to capture bee behaviour as an entomologist might in a diagram or close up photograph. Through my use of tiny portions of found material such as miniature light bulbs, cable ties and electrical capacitators, I have composed individual assemblages which make up each bee. The mix of wire line and intricacy of material has been influenced by the complexity and delicate balance within hive life.
