Sian Matthews

English silversmith Siân Matthews references both past and present aesthetics in her award winning silverware.  Designs focus on the literal combination of ‘form and decoration', traditional decorative patterns are fused with contemporary minimal forms.  From research into traditional prints, carried out at her studies at the Royal College of Art, Siân creates patterns that become integral to the work in both a two and three-dimensional presence.  Patterns are designed to blanket the surface of three-dimensional forms.  Equally elements selected from the signature pattern evolve onto functional aesthetics, and become the physical form of the piece.
Siân designs and makes her silverware to be used, treasured and enjoyed in interiors today.
