Laura Birdsall

I am interested in a child’s ability to see a whole universe in something very small. It is this sense of wonder, invention and the unexpected that I want to convey. The interior spaces of my work suggest a microscopic world. The otherness of nature that strikes a cord in me, things that are alien and also familiar. I try to preserve the soft and elastic qualities of the hot material in my finished work. It is the translucent properties of glass, rather than transparency that I am drawn to.
