Jacob van der Beugel
Jacob van der Beugel creates wheel thrown installation pieces and unique large vessels. The installation work is a response to pieces of music, 17th century still life paintings, vanitas and memento mori themes and other current affairs. The varying heights and colours of his gradated installations are reminiscent of music scores and the changes in the weather or seasons.
Recent installations include Rough with the Smooth, charting the rise and Fall of the FTSE 100, and The Barley Installatio; a colour gradated 20m long piece that metaphorically responds to the space around it.
Jacob has broadened his approach and is currently creating large architectural ceramic panels for Chatsworth House, as part of the renovation of the North Sketch Gallery.
