Lindsey Mann

Some people collect and squirrel away everything from a long life, while others carefully select individual objects which are charged with special meaning, and then some people pick up what others throw away. Our lives are narrated through the objects we collect. With these themes in mind I create collections of playful kinetic jewellery and objects which take a light hearted look at my childhood memories. Many of the pieces I make have both familiar and yet foreign associations, perhaps triggering a vague memory for the viewer too, and hopefully making them smile.
Anodised aluminium provides a perfect canvas for much of my work.  Colour is applied using traditional and digital printmaking techniques combined with the use of resists and immersion dyes.    I make line drawings, collage and take photographs to develop my ideas and these are later transferred onto anodised aluminium.  Once coloured the aluminium is then sealed making it a workable base for jewellery and objects.    I continually evolve my approach to colouring, allowing the discoveries I make to feed into the development of new work.  Silver components are all handmade using jewellery making techniques.  I enjoy the challenges that working with mixed media presents and take pleasure in finding alternative ways of connecting and assembling my work.
