Love Birds

I spent much of the recent Christmas holiday wondering how I could attract more birds to my garden.

I bought tallow, and peanuts, and little bags of birdseed.  I hung them in my barren fig tree, together with the dried head of a sunflower, seeds intact. For good measure, I added a few decorative strings of pop-corn, and stuck an apple onto the pokey end of a branch. 

I waited.

Maybe what my tree needs is a birdhouse.

Yesterday, whilst enjoying my own breakfast, I saw for the first time a little robin nibbling some tallow.  Could this be the beginning of a new relationship?
