Doerte Behn


My approach towards weaving - as a self-taught weaver - is determined by my scientific background. The inner logic of the weaving technique in combination with an inquiring mind is the starting point of all my designs.

 1952 Hamburg.

Education 
1972-1983 Philosophy, Medicine and Sinology at the University of Hamburg. Staatsexamen in medicine.

2003 Award from the city of Berlin.
1998 European Prize for Contemporary Artand
Design-Led Crafts, WorldCrafts Council, Europe.
Award of the Justus-Brinckmann Society, Hamburg.
1996  Prize for best individual exhibit awarded by the Chamber of Commerce, Hamburg.
1995  Scholarship from the county of Schleswig-Holstein. Award Swiss
Prize for design. Special Award of the Erdwin-Amsinck-Foundation, Hamburg
1994  New Exhibitors Prize Chelsea Crafts Fair, London.
