Claire Curneen

'Stick Figure'
Similar to the signature 'Standing Figure', this piece has additions around the head, Sticks.  They are reminiscent to a crumbling crown of thorns or a figure of burden.  It is as if the figure wears some strange head dress, uncomfortable and difficult to wear.  Then stick forms are symbols for transformation.  The red cotton binds the ends of the cut sticks is reminiscent of blood but also offer a vivid textural quality which compliments the gold and porcelain
