Sue Paraskeva

Sue is installing porcelain sculptural forms to the concrete steps of this Focus exhibition at Contemporary Applied Arts.
She has responded to the steps by creating sculptural forms which relate to each other and the hard, industrial concrete they sit on.
The sculptural aspect to Sue’s work has continued to evolve since “Throwing Rings”, her second, major installation, was installed at Aspex Gallery.
Throwing porcelain in a traditional way on a stick driven momentum wheel, then cutting and reassembling the thrown form.
Devoting time to explore aspects of the medium, form, process, cutting & altering of the shapes, rejoining, creating tensions within a piece and the scale.
The sculptural work links Sue’s range of tableware, with its thrown & altered bowls, offering their contents.
The work is high fired in a gas kiln, glazed inside, which gives the work its strength and subtle depth of colour.
