Peter Jones

The binding always reflects my reaction to the book; sometimes to its physical nature, sometimes to the general appearance of the page, text or illustrations, sometimes to the written word, often to a combination of these things. The structure is paramount; I strive to make my books work well. Some structures are attractive in themselves and provide sufficient interest to invite further examination of the binding and its contents. Others need more in the way of decorative elements to attract the reader. I tend to shy away from the illustrative, preferring abstract designs formed from blocks of colour, geometric shapes and surfaces set at different levels to give added texture.
