Jo Bird

My work is essentially about creating a physical and tactile object, a piece of work that is also a book to be explored and read. I look specifically at utilising materials traditionally used in bookbinding, such as various leathers and papers, often dyeing them myself to make them gain a contemporary feel, and to create a rhythm with the book content.
The processes I use with these materials and the construction techniques are equally important. I strive for a balance of dialogue between content, structure and decorative techniques to create a complete book object.
