Alpa Mistry

Alpa Mistry, a woven textile designer, produces exclusive accessories for fashion and interiors. Her work is defined by an imaginative use of colour, balance and proportion of line.
The colours are translated into hand-dyed silks and then finely hand-woven creating textile pieces with contrasts of sheer and solid fields of colour.
Alpa’s work is also characterised by her use of contrasting textures, often mixing diaphanous silks with different weighted wools, linens, mohair and cashmere. A natural instinct for teaming unusual colours and creating glorious combinations allows her to be spontaneous at the weaving loom.
Alpa seldom pre-plans her colour schemes and ‘paints’ with the colours as the designs progress, thus ensuring that no two pieces are ever the same.
She is inspired by the rich colours derived from her Indian background, as well as the different layers and textures found in images of rural landscapes.
Since setting up her own label, Alpa has attracted attention from a number of galleries and outlets across the country with her designs, including The Victoria and Albert Museum, Contemporary Applied Arts and the Museum of London.
