Empathy with the material and its natural form

All pieces evolve from an empathy with the materials, and the surfaces are left as natural as possible.  The finish is unpolished, sympathetic in appearance and show the footprint of the smithing techniques involved.  The work is mainly three dimensional, sculptural forms that alter their profile with the movement of the wearer.

The essence of an object is extracted by eliminating the shapes considered unimportant.  The fascinating shapes are accentuated by sketching.  The ideas are then taken to the bench, usually working directly on the metal, but occasionally using paper to create a mock-up.

The tools used are self-made or modified to achieve the desired shape or form to be developed.  This is important, because the marks left by the tools are all part of the empathy with the metal.
