Dawn Gulyas

The sensuous, squeeze-me, eat-me quality of Dawn Gulyas’ work is disturbing, given the scale of the larger pieces, but is enhanced by the sheer exuberance of the jewels. Her inspiration comes from tropical plants, undersea creatures and luscious vegetables. These pieces are constructed with a skin of thixotropic resin over a balsa-wood armature, the surface is then textured and dyed. It is tempting to sink the teeth into these succulent fruits of suck on the boiled-sweet earstuds.
