Sandy Brown

Sandy Brown appears to make with wilful abandon, and yet her celebration of the material is plain to see. Ere is a rich fluid asymmetry, where the character of her throwing is marked out on pots of solidity and expressive charge- what Philip Rawson had in mind when he wrote of ceramics that ‘positively revel in all physical attributes of wet clay…they do not attempt…to conceal the accidents, the smears, slurry and pinches that happen when one squeezes together earth and water.’
